She doesn’t like your girlfriend, she doesn’t like when things are complicated, and she’ll miss you when you’re gone. Avril Lavigne is a pop/rock artist who was born in Bellville, Ontario. This Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician entered the music scene at the age of 17 with her young, pop-punk tomboy attitude. By the age of 16, she had already signed a two-album recording contract with Arista Records. In 2002, she released her debut album, Let Go. This album was certified four times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Her breakthrough single, Complicated, peaked at No. 1 in many countries around the world. In 2004, she released her second album, Under My Skin. She released her third album, The Best Damn Thing, in April 2007, and her fourth album, Goodbye Lullaby in March 2011 through RCA Records. However, due to disagreements, Avril Lavigne left RCA Records in October 2011 for Epic Records. Avril is currently working on her fifth album which will be released through Epic Records (Epic Records is owned by Sony Music Entertainment – The head of ER is L.A Reid). One of the themes of Avril’s music includes images of self-empowerment from a female adolescent’s point of view. She believes her songs are about “being yourself no matter what and going after your dreams.” Growing up, Lavigne listened to Blink 182, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Shania Twain, and her influences include Courtney Love and Janis Joplin. Because of these music genres, her influences, and her own personal style, the media has defined her as punk, something she always denied being.

In July 2006, Lavigne married Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist for band Sum 41. The marriage lasted a little over 3 years until Lavigne filed for divorce.

Avril’s feature film debut was voicing an animated character in the 2006 film, Over the Hedge. She voiced the character of Heather, an opossum. Lavigne said she found the recording process to be easy and natural.

In July 2008, Lavigne launched her own clothing line, Abbey Dawn. Named after her childhood nickname, Abby Dawn clothing is designed by Avril herself. Lavigne sometimes wears her own collections on stage while performing. Lavigne has also released three fragrances; Black Star, Forbidden Rose, and Wild Rose.

Avril has also been involved with many charities including the Make A Wish Foundation, Make Some Noise, and War Child. She also appeared in ALDO ads with YouthAIDS to raise money to educate people about HIV/AIDS. She has her own charity called “The Avril Lavigne Foundation” which helps youth with illnesses and disabilities. (Visit site here).

Avril Lavigne continues to excite her fans with her powerhouse voice, her high-spirited melodies, and her straight-talking lyrics.
