Toronto’s very first iHeartRadio fest as part of Canadian Music Week happened on May 6th with

a stellar line up of Jocelyn Alice, Coleman Hell, Scott Helman, Shawn Hook, Tegan and Sara

and X Ambassadors.

Fans waited for hours before the event for a chance to get up close and personal with their

favourite artists. You could see it on their faces that they were tired of waiting. But, as soon

as the doors opened, you could see their faces light up as they charged towards the front of the

stage.

The night opened up with the very bubbly Jocelyn Alice rockin the red lipstick. She warmed the

crowd nicely with her hit single “Jackpot” and broke it down with a little bit of Beyonce’s Diva.

Next up was Coleman Hell who’s from Thunder Bay, but refers to Toronto as his true home. He

energized and entertained the crowd with his energy and funny dance moves. He ended his set

with his hit single “2 Heads”.

Then came 20 year old singer, Scott Helman who is making waves in the Canadian

music industry with his hit single “Bungalow”. All the girls were obsessing over his vocals and

performance. He got the crowd to sing along to every song.

Up next was Shawn Hook, not a rookie to the CMW stage. He has attended and

performed at CMW for the last couple of years. This year really took off for Shawn as he

performed his most popular songs Relapse, Million Ways and of course Sound of Your Heart.

Then came the act everyone had been endlessly waiting for. The lights were dimmed but you

could see two shadows coming on stage. Everyone’s eyes lit up and screams could be heard as the lights

revealed Tegan and Sara after an 18 month hiatus. The duo started off with “Back in your Head

then slowed it down with “I was a Fool”. They performed three songs off their new album Love

You to Death coming out on June 3rd, the 80’s inspired UTurn, 100x and their recent single

Boyfriend. You could see on their faces that they were ecstatic to be on stage and performing

again. They ended their set with everyone singing along to “Closer”. I might say, they did

not lose their touch after being out in the past year.

The X Ambassadors came afterwards to end the night with their hit single “Renegade” and what

a great ending it was to Toronto’s very first iHeartRadio fest.

The iHeartRadio fest truly showcased the tremendous talent Canadian musicians have to offer.

The pride in Canadian music has taken a turn in the last couple of years, with Toronto becoming a

hotspot for emerging Canadian artists, having produced excellent leaders in the music

industry within Canada and the world!
