We  got the chance to interview singer Nate Hall shortly after his performance on YTV’s The Next Star season finale!

Nate’s budding career took off last August when he was named the BELL MEDIA/CHUM Emerging Artist of the month. His single “Keep Moving On” hit radio stations across Canada and charted on Billboard. Since then, he’s been hard at work on his debut EP. Blending  pop, rock and hip-hop, his second single, “Over You” , was just released to radio stations across the country.

A dynamic singer/guitarist, Nate was also recently featured as a rapper on Charlie’s (winner of The Next Star Season 4) latest single “Paper Heart”.

Here’s what Nate had to say:

CT: You recently performed on the season finale of YTV’s The Next Star, what was the response like from the crowd?

NH: The response was awesome! I think everyone was super surprised when I came on stage with Brooklyn on her song “The Way I See You”. It wasn’t really announced that I would be doing a song with one of the Top 6 on the finale, so to see the excitement in everyone’s faces when I popped on stage was priceless!

CT: How long have you been making music and when did you decide it’s what you wanted to do as a career?

NH: I have been making music for about 4 years now but it’s been in the last 2 years that I have really been doing it full time and working with my producer/manager Zubin Thakkar. I would say that right from the first time I picked up the guitar 4 years ago, I HAD to do music as a career! It consumed all of my time… If I wasn’t playing or listening to music I was thinking about it!

CT: Your single “Over You” was released to radio stations this past summer. Will you be releasing an album or EP anytime soon?

NH: I am currently working on writing my EP and it will be out soon!

CT: What would you say sets your music apart from other artists and what inspires you most when creating songs?

NH: I listen to a very wide variety of music from hip hop to folk so I like to try and pull ideas from as many different genres as possible and make a whole new unique sound of my own! When I am creating new songs I like to listen to some of my favourite tracks and think of points about why I love that particular song. I get a lot of inspiration from there.

CT: What is your biggest dream/goal you hope to achieve as an artist?

NH: My biggest dream is to make music that can inspire people from all over the world!

CT:  What would you say has been your greatest accomplishment or moment you’ve been most proud of so far?

NH: Last August my first single was released and I was named Bell Media Emerging Artist with my song “Keep Moving On”. I was super pumped and honoured to get that title and it really helped me gain exposure that has led to many other great performance opportunities such as the Next Star Finale.

CT: Describe yourself in 5 words

NH: Fun, energetic, loyal, ambitious and determined

CT: What is a random fact about you that people would be surprised to know?

NH: One random fact about me is that I actually used to fence when I was little… I would go to fencing meets all over and actually went to the ontario games when I was 10.

CT: If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you HAVE to bring?

NH: I would definitely bring my guitar, iPod and probably one of those wicked safari hats…

CT: If you could eat a meal with any person, dead or alive who would it be and why?

NH: I would love to eat a meal with Jimmy Fallon… He is one of my favourite comedians and I think it would be the most entertaining meal ever!

CT: Do you have a message to share with your fans?

NH: I LOVE my fans and I want them to know that I really appreciate each and every one of them and their amazing support… it means the world to me!
