Thursday, February 16th marked the big day for Sondre House Productions as they were set to premiere “Neither Here Nor There”, a visual album accompanying the music of Toronto based band, Aniqa Dear. The intimate setting of Supermarket Restaurant and Bar played host to the premiere and provided a great vibe for both family and friends to mix and mingle with food and drinks during the night’s festivities.

The happy and mellow vibe was felt through the different members of the Sondre House Productions team and was transcended throughout the whole room. Additionally, it was great to witness months upon months’ worth of work showcased and being celebrated on one amazing evening.  The night featured two screenings of the visual album as well as a full set performed by the band, Aniqa Dear.

Upon the first viewing of the visual album, I was blown away by the stunning visuals and strong storyline being portrayed throughout. The music and visuals cohesively played off each other leaving the viewer with an unforgettable audio-visual experience.  The short film delved into topics such as anxiety and being able to fit in within society. I think it’s a theme that many young adults can resonate with and I think it’s great that the topic was brought to life in a beautifully pieced, thought-provoking short film.

As mentioned above, the night also featured a full set performance by Aniqa Dear. The four-piece Toronto based group graced the Supermarket with their beautiful and unique art-pop sound.  All in all, the band played an emotionally fuelled performance, as the quartet seemed to be harmoniously in sync throughout the duration of their set. This was my first time even hearing music by the band, but I will make it a priority to check out their latest EP.

In conclusion, big ups to Sondre House Productions for hosting a well put together night filled with laughter, emotion, and an overall good time. Seeing the joy and relief of all the hard work put into this production was very motivational and inspiring. Although the event served as premiere for a Practicum production, I would like to see Sondre House produce another visual album later on down the line.
